Soto is a stud, a generational player, and at 23 still a prospect

You just can't trade a Soto

Although I'm happy to see he went to SD, and not NY or LA

Agree. That would've sucked if he went to the Dodgers or Yankees. I don't ever remember a team getting 3 players of that caliber at the trading deadline.

Padres got a lot of talent at the deadline to help their team

They will still lose, they are the Padres.

440 for 15 yrs tho....it wouldnt have even put him in top 15 of highest paid players per annual salary

They could have knocked a few years off and maybe he signs

If you're committed to your team, your town, your community, your fans.... I'm going to suggest 29+ million per year is enough for anyone

As for teams paying that amount or more for extended periods of time, I'm not sure if even one of them proved to be worth it (yet anyhow)

I just looked at this list of highest paid players, far too many busts on that list

I agree im not a fan of these 10-15yr contracts theyre ridiculous and unrealistic and a disadvantage to the team overall when you get stuck paying a player so much money to underperform or in some cases to not even perform at all

He didn't want to be in Washington

General manager Mike Rizzo and Washington's front office made three separate contract offers to Soto over the last year, including the 15-year, $440 million contract that was rejected right around the 2022 All-Star break. According to Rizzo, none of the Nats' three offers were countered by Soto's side.
